Legal 500 recognises Mogers Drewett in annual rankings

The Legal 500 guide, which ranks the most outstanding law firms and lawyers in the UK, has recommended Mogers Drewett in 5 practice areas.

Corporate and Commercial

Ranking corporate and commercial at tier 4 this year, the directory describes the team’s expertise across regional SMEs and high-street banks with particular experience in corporate and commercial mandates in the IT, tech, media, food and drink, and hotel and leisure sectors. The department is headed by Tom Webb, who advises buy-side and sell-side clients primarily in M&A valued between £1m to £25m. Webb and associate Emily Eccles handle a range of commercial agreements. The team also sits on a number of bank and corporate legal panels.

Commercial Litigation

Legal 500 ranked Commercial litigation in at tier 3 this year noting the practices ‘strong and growing geographic reach’ which ‘punches above its weight in the regional dispute resolution market’. Department head Maeve England is ‘extremely hardworking’ and has a ‘well-deserved following’. England has experience in international arbitration. Luke Watson has particular expertise in disputed wills, trusts and estates, and associate Jake Stacey is noted for his ‘clear communication’ and ‘good technical knowledge’ of construction disputes.

Agriculture and Estates

Ranked tier 3, the team was described as ‘highly responsive and proactive’, providing ‘excellent attention to detail and client care’. Wells-based solicitor Jonathan Cheal is considered ‘an industry leader in his area of expertise’, ‘leaving no stones unturned’ as one of the country’s leading specialists in public rights of way and access to land. Frank Collins heads the practice.

Family

Ranked tier 4 and describing the team as ‘very organised and efficient’ the directory goes on to list key names including Rebecca Silcock, who has a ‘laid back and pragmatic approach’ and a focus on complex financial matters and private law children work, and Victoria Strode, who is ‘calm but robust, and again pragmatic’, and typically advises on financial disputes between separating and divorcing couples, as well as cases with an agricultural aspect.

Personal tax, trusts and probate

Ranking the department tier 4, the directory points to the ‘very knowledgeable and practical’ David Hill who was promoted to partner and head of the team. Thomas Chiffers was also promoted to partner, and Orlando Beckett joined as a legal assistant.
