Mogers Drewett supports Dementia Action Week

This year’s Dementia Action Week runs from 20 – 26 May 2019. It forms part of the Alzheimer’s Society’s ongoing commitment to unite people, workplaces, schools and communities to take action and improve the lives of people living with dementia. The Alzheimer’s Society Dementia Friends programme is the biggest ever initiative to transform how the nation thinks, acts and talks about dementia.

Kate Norris and Gemma Norris are Mogers Drewett’s resident Dementia Friends Champions. As a result, and as part of our ongoing commitment to becoming a dementia friendly organisation, a number of colleagues recently became Dementia Friends by participating in a Dementia Friends Information Session.

Gemma said “In support of the Alzheimer’s Society Dementia Action Week we are encouraging everyone to take action by taking an important step towards planning for the future. You can do this by making a Will and Lasting Power of Attorney. This will give you – and the ones you care about – peace of mind and ensures all your wishes are carried out just the way you want.”

“A Lasting Power of Attorney is a legal document where you appoint someone to manage and make decisions about your affairs in the event that you are unable to do so” Gemma continues.

“One of the benefits of having a Lasting Power of Attorney in place is the reassurance of knowing that in the future, if you are no longer able to make decisions for yourself, you have already taken action to appoint someone that you know and trust to make those decisions for you.

It is important to make or review your Will and consider your wishes following any change of circumstance. There’s no doubt that having a Will in place sooner rather than later gives you peace of mind.”

Kate and Gemma work in the Later Life Support team at Mogers Drewett.  This is a dedicated team providing advice and support for older clients, their relatives and friends, or those who for other reasons such as illness require more than just legal advice. A recent statement from the Alzheimer’s Society reports that every three minutes someone in the UK develops dementia. This means almost all of us know someone affected by dementia.
