Legal Assistant – Private Client | Wells, Somerset

Location: Wells, Somerset
Department: Private Client
Job Title: Legal Assistant
Reports to: Private Client Team – Wells office

The opportunity

We are looking for a Legal Assistant to join our Private Client team in Wells.

Our Private Client team helps people with some of the important decisions and events in their lives. Behind good legal advice is a team of people who make sure that work progresses smoothly, clients are kept informed and the details are taken care of.

What will you be doing?

You’ll work closely with our lawyers, supporting a range of Private Client matters. Your work will include preparing correspondence and documents, maintaining files, managing key dates, assisting with estate accounts and helping clients with enquiries and updates.

It’s a role that calls for organisation, accuracy and attention to detail, but also good judgement, initiative and an understanding of the people behind the paperwork.

Who are we looking for?

We’re particularly interested in hearing from people with experience in Private Client work who would welcome the opportunity to develop their skills and take on greater responsibility.

That might be an experienced administrator looking to stretch themselves, or someone returning to the profession who wants to put their experience to good use. Most importantly, we’re interested in people who bring strong administrative skills, confidence in dealing with clients and a willingness to learn.

We also want someone who sees themselves as an active part of the team: someone who notices what needs doing, contributes ideas, helps colleagues and wants to play a part in making the way we work better.

How can you develop in this role?

There is real scope to develop within this role, with variety and responsibility growing as your knowledge, skills and judgement do. We value people who want to build their expertise and make a lasting contribution to Private Client work, whether or not pursuing a formal legal qualification is part of their plans.

What do we offer?

Alongside a competitive salary, our benefits include:

  • 24/7 wellbeing, safety and practical support through Sonder
  • 25 days’ holiday, Christmas closure days and your birthday off (pro rata for part-time)
  • Life assurance
  • Group pension with 4% employer contribution
  • Discretionary annual bonus scheme
  • Enhanced maternity and paternity leave
  • Optional private medical insurance
  • Healthcare cashback scheme
  • Discounted legal services, including free wills and half-price conveyancing
  • Retail discounts
  • Cycle to work scheme
  • Regular social events
  • Employee assistance programme
