Connecting Communities at Countryside Shows

As summer unfolds across the Dorset countryside, a much-loved rural tradition returns to the calendar—countryside shows. These vibrant, family-friendly events are a seasonal highlight, drawing visitors from both town and country to celebrate the people, animals, and traditions that shape rural life.

Trade StandFor those living in and around Sherborne, agricultural shows offer more than just a fun day out. They’re a chance to experience the beating heart of farming—getting up close to livestock, sampling local produce, and discovering how food is grown, reared, and brought to our tables. With so many of us now a step removed from the agricultural world, shows are a valuable reminder of the dedication, knowledge, and hard work behind the scenes.

From artisan food stalls to prize-winning cattle, from farm machinery to shopping experiences and fun rides, agricultural shows bring the countryside to life. They’re also a wonderful place for children to connect with farming in a hands-on way—learning where their food comes from and meeting the people who make it happen.

For farmers, these shows are just as important. They offer a welcome break from the day-to-day demands of farm life and a chance to share experiences, network with peers, and showcase their animals and produce. In a profession where many work in relative isolation, the sense of community at a showground is invaluable.

Attending an agricultural show is also a great way to support local businesses. Visitors can purchase fresh, locally grown produce, handmade crafts, and delicious artisanal products, all while learning more about the methods and values behind these goods. It’s a unique opportunity to gain insight into the challenges faced by farmers and rural enterprises, as well as to deepen your appreciation for the beauty and richness of countryside life.

This summer, Mogers Drewett’s Agriculture & Rural team is proud to once again be part of several agricultural shows across Dorset and Somerset. These events are a highlight of our year—not only for catching up with familiar faces but also for meeting new ones. As a firm rooted in the rural South West, we understand the unique legal and commercial challenges that come with working and living in the countryside. Please stop by for a chat—we’re always happy to share a cup of tea and a conversation about the issues that matter to you.

So whether you’re based in town, live out in the countryside, or simply enjoy a great day in the fresh air, we encourage you to come along. Countryside shows are more than just tradition—they’re a celebration of our shared landscape, values, and community spirit. We look forward to seeing you there.
